Summer 2026 Service Day Recap
Reading to Shelter
Animals Recap.
Every Friday from June through August, families curled up with the cats and dogs at Lexington Humane Society for an hour of read-aloud time — with support from Delk Enterprises and Peterson Law Office. Here’s a look back at a summer of stories.
The Recap
A Summer of Stories.
Every Friday from June through August, Kentucky Cares families headed to the Lexington Humane Society to read aloud to shelter cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes. Kids practiced their reading skills in a calm, judgment-free setting, while the shelter animals got some extra company and quiet comfort during their stay.
Thank you to Delk Enterprises and Peterson Law Office for sponsoring this program, and to the Lexington Humane Society for welcoming our families all summer long!
